The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) celebrated International Children’s Rights Day on Saturday at Thaba-Tsoeu, Mpharane in Mohale’s Hoek.
Speaking at the event, little director of the Department of Social Development, Itumeleng Lekoba, highlighted the Ministry’s role in ensuring that children grow up in safe and protective environments. She noted that the Ministry has introduced a toll-free hotline that the public can use to report any child-related challenges within their communities.
Meanwhile, little UNICEF representative Rethabile Mokete said the day served as a reminder that children have rights that must be respected and protected. She emphasized that this day signifies the need for children to live in a safe world and reminds parents to prioritize their children above all else. She added that many vulnerable children in Lesotho find hope through UNICEF’s support.
International Children’s Day is celebrated worldwide on November 20th.
