Maseru Street Vendors Brace for Taxi Fare Hike

Street vendors in Maseru say the anticipated increase in public transport fares, expected to take effect soon, will place an even greater strain on their livelihoods.

One of the vendors, Ms. ’Makhopolo, says they are already facing challenges with taxi operators over the negotiated ten maloti fare, and fears conditions will worsen if fares rise further.

She added that many vendors are employed, and yet their wages have remained unchanged despite the rising cost of living.

The taxi association (MRTO) announced the new fare structure at a press briefing in Maseru today.
