The Ministry of Agriculture, in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning and the Postbank, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to assist farmers in purchasing tractors and related equipment.
Under this agreement, the government will cover 30 percent of the purchase cost, enabling farmers to acquire more than 500 tractors to boost agricultural productivity.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition, Thabo Mofosi, said the initiative aims to help farmers improve their efficiency and gain high-quality experience in food production.
He added that the government’s broader goal is for Lesotho to reach a level where it can compete with neighbouring countries in agricultural output.
Mr. Mofosi said this partnership marks a major step in the government’s plan to strengthen food security and realize its vision of feeding the nation and exporting Lesotho’s produce internationally.
