MEMBERS of the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) have allegedly become embroiled in an escalating dispute at Naledi Funeral Planners (Pty) Ltd after armed men believed to be soldiers stormed the company’s Temong headquarters during a standoff over the suspension of two senior executives.
The incident occurred shortly after Naledi’s board suspended Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mosoeu Mabote, and Corporate Secretary and Head of Legal and Corporate Affairs, Advocate Peter Matekane, pending investigations into allegations of misconduct, governance failures and compliance concerns.
According to witnesses, Adv Matekane arrived at the company’s premises accompanied by heavily armed men dressed in military gear who allegedly forced their way into the compound after security personnel attempted to enforce the suspensions. Ironically, the police are the ones supposed to respond to such incidents, not the army.
The LDF has distanced itself from the incident, denying that soldiers were officially deployed to the premises. However, police officers who responded to the scene, as well as security personnel on duty, allegedly identified some of the men as soldiers.
