The Chairperson of the SADC Peace Commission, Henry McCarter, says he has begun writing to various departments urging intervention in efforts to secure the release of Dr. Lipholo from prison.
Speaking in an interview with Mohale FM, Mr. McCarter said the most urgent step is to ensure Dr. Lipholoโs release so that he can properly defend himself against the charges he faces.
McCarter revealed that he had requested a meeting with the Government of Lesotho, but said his request was not met with interest. He said this suggested that authorities may not want the matter to gain international attention.
He added that one possible course of action could be for Lesotho to take the Government of South Africa to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), invoking Resolution 187. McCarter said he is already in the process of drafting letters to advance this plan.
