Moselinyane constituency representative under the Revolution for Prosperity (RFP), Mr Tommy Tayob, has confirmed the circulating reports that his party was involved in recommending youth for recruitment into the army.
Speaking to Mohale FM on Tuesday this week, Mr Tayob revealed that he received an instruction from the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Mr Limpho Tau, directing each constituency to submit five names of young people who had applied for employment in the Lesotho Defence Force.
Mr Tayob explained that although they submitted the required number of names from his constituency, unfortunately not even one of those youths was recruited.
He said the identified youths were even taken to Hlotse with the promise that they would secure employment, but that promise never materialized.
He further dismissed statements made by one Lizzy — claiming that he, Tommy, was spreading secretive information. Mr Tayob insisted her remarks were baseless, saying he received his instruction directly from Mr Tau.
When asked whether it was appropriate for army recruitment to be influenced by politics, Mr Tayob said he did not know what the correct procedure should be, as he himself is still finding his footing in politics.
Calls made to Mr Tau to find his side of the story were unsuccessful as his phone went unanswered.
