Following a delay in payments for some old-age pensioners this month, the Minister of Gender, Youth and Social Development, Pitso Lesaoana, has assured beneficiaries that they will receive their payments soon — on dates yet to be announced.
In his statement issued today, Mr Lesaoana said the delay affected pensioners who were scheduled to be paid on Thursday, and that the Ministry will issue a public notice once new payment dates are confirmed.
The affected pensioners are mainly in Thaba-Tseka, Maseru, and Leribe districts. 85 percent of pensioners are now paid digitally through Mpesa and EcoCash, and the Ministry is finalizing arrangements for those who prefer to receive their payments through banks. November will be the last month for cash payments, as all town pay points will be closed from December. The withdrawal charges on digital payments are covered by the Department of Social Development, meaning beneficiaries receive their full M950.00 without deductions.
