The Member of Parliament for Kolonyama Constituency, Mahlathini Lempe, will today distribute two-way radios, also known as walkie-talkies, to members of Community Policing Committees in Fobane, Ha Ralikariki, and Pobeng in Leribe.
Mr Lempe told the agency that the 66 two-way radios were last week handed over to the Kolonyama Lesotho Mounted Police Service and community policing members from various areas.
He said the radios are meant to improve communication between the police and community members in the fight against crime, particularly stock theft, which continues to plague the area.
Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police in Leribe, Khethang Tenane, confirmed that stock theft and killings remain high in Peka and Kolonyama, adding that the donation will greatly assist law enforcement.
This marks the first initiative of its kind by a Member of Parliament in the Kolonyama Constituency.
