The one-week Measles and Rubella (MR) Immunization Campaign has been launched with great enthusiasm at vaccination sites across nine health clinics in Quthing District from Monday this week.
Vaccination teams from various health centres are stationed at village-based sites to ensure that every child under five years receives protection against measles and rubella. The nationwide campaign targets all children aged 0 to 59 months, aiming to prevent vaccine-preventable diseases and strengthen child health.
Meanwhile, the District Medical Officer, Dr Makarantši Mohlapiso, commended the teams for their dedication and urged them to maintain the same spirit throughout the campaign. He emphasized teamwork, daily performance reviews, and prompt problem-solving to achieve the district’s goal of vaccinating over 8,000 eligible children. During this week’s campaign, children will receive MR vaccines, Vitamin A supplements, oral polio drops, and deworming tablets.
Measles is a highly contagious viral illness marked by fever, runny nose, and a spreading rash, while rubella, though milder, can cause serious complications during pregnancy.
The nine health centres participating include Tsatsane, Mphaki, Makoae, Maqokho, Dilli-Dilli, St. Matthews, St. Gabriel Maqokho, and the Mother and Child Health Centre in Quthing Urban Council.
