The number of Basotho detained at South Africa’s Lindela Repatriation Centre for lacking valid documentation has declined.
This was revealed by the Leribe District Administration Public Relations Officer, Mr. MaqelepoMaqelepo who indicated that since October, thirty-three Basotho have been received by the district office after their release from Lindela. Maqelepo said in November, the number dropped to seventeen, while in the current month it increased to thirty-six and indicated that all were transported to their respective districts at different times.
He further noted that these figures are significantly lower compared to the same period last year, when hundreds of Basotho were recorded in December alone.
Maqelepo added that the government has recently provided the office with a van, which he believes will greatly improve the timely transportation of the returned Basotho to their homes.
