The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Hlalefang Motinyane, showed up for work today—only to find herself locked out of her own office again, just days after the Constitutional Court ruled her suspension unconstitutional.
Advocate Motinyane, whose return to office was legally affirmed last Thursday, has been forced to operate from the office of Crown Attorney, Lehlohonolo Phooko, as a temporary measure.
Despite the court’s clear order, she revealed that her efforts to reclaim access to her office have so far been futile. Minister of Law and Justice Richard Ramoeletsi, who has the authority to authorize her reinstatement, has allegedly informed her that he is currently out of the country and will only return on Wednesday.
Adding to the standoff, Commissioner of Police Borotho Matsoso—who reportedly took custody of the office keys—has also travelled abroad and is not expected back until Friday.
