Nearly Half of Lesotho’s Women Aged 15–49 Experience Violence

A recent Lesotho Demographic and Health Survey (2023–2024) reveals that nearly one in two women aged 15–49 have experienced sexual or physical violence since the age of 15.

According to UNFPA Lesotho, this alarming figure is more than a statistic, as it represents thousands of women and girls whose safety, dignity, and rights are being violated every day.

Experts emphasize that by challenging harmful social norms, strengthening protection systems, and expanding access to survivor-centered services, Lesotho can work toward a safer environment for every woman and girl.

Advocates have therefore urged the public to speak out, support survivors, and take concrete action to end gender-based violence.
