The chief of Ha Tsolo, Sekoting, in Maseru, Mootisa Mootisa, has announced that crime in his village, once a growing concern, is now under control following decisive community action.
In an interview with Mohale FM, Chief Mootisa explained that the progress was achieved through close collaboration between local chiefs, the police, community policing forums, and residents.
He noted that one of the key strategies implemented has been continuous patrols conducted jointly by chiefs, law enforcement, and community members to deter criminal activity.
However, he highlighted ongoing challenges, particularly crimes involving tenants who are not originally from the area.
According to the chief, some landlords contribute to the problem by renting out rooms without requiring proper identification documents, often prioritising income over regulation.
Chief Mootisa concluded by appealing to Basotho to promote unity and peaceful coexistence within their communities.
