The Prime Minister of Lesotho, Sam Ntsokoane Matekane, has announced that the government will subsidise rising fuel prices to ease the financial burden on the public.
In a national address delivered yesterday evening, the Prime Minister stated that the government will provide a subsidy of M5 per litre of paraffin and M2 per litre for other fuels.
During this time, the government will closely monitor the situation and conduct regular reviews.
Recognising the broader impact of fuel costs on production and food prices, Matekane also announced an expansion of value-added tax (VAT) exemptions. Additional items now exempt include bread, cooking oil, fresh vegetables, and fresh fruits.
Following these measures, new fuel prices effective from today are as follows: petrol 93 will cost M22.50 per litre, petrol 95 M23.30, diesel 50 M30.50, and paraffin M21.30.
