Advocate Sefuthi Urges Greater Support and Opportunities for People with Disabilities in Lesotho

Advocate Nkhasi Sefuthi of the Council of People with Disabilities has emphasized the need for increased public awareness about the capabilities of people with disabilities, stressing that they are able to contribute meaningfully across various forms of work.

In an interview with Mohale FM, he highlighted the importance of recognising, appreciating, and supporting individuals with disabilities by ensuring they are given equal opportunities in the workplace. He further noted that laws and regulations should explicitly include provisions that promote their employment and provide adequate workplace support.

Advocate Sefuthi also pointed out that legislation protecting people with disabilities makes it a criminal offence to discriminate against or stigmatise individuals on the basis of their disability.

He welcomed the recent announcement by the Ministry of Social Development regarding the expansion of the list of beneficiaries receiving disability grants. However, he cautioned that, while the increase is a positive step, it does not fully address the challenges faced by people with disabilities.
