Qalo #4 legislator, Honourable Dada Jooma, has officially handed over a water supply project to the community of Liqalaneng in Botha-Bothe.
According to constituency secretary, Mrs ’Makeresemese Mphafolane said the project was fully funded by the legislator from his personal resources. She stated that Mr. Jooma contributed M85,000 and added a further M5,000, bringing the total cost to M90,000 to ensure the community have access to clean water.
Speaking at the handover, Honourable Jooma acknowledged government efforts to deliver services to Basotho communities. However, he noted the long-standing water shortage in Liqalaneng and said he decided to intervene personally after realising that government assistance might take time to reach the area.
On behalf of the community, Mrs ’Mamahaba Moketetsa expressed heartfelt gratitude for the initiative. She thanked the legislator and appealed to him to also consider assisting other villages. She added that the availability of water would promote peace and harmony among residents.
The project is powered by electricity, and Honourable Jooma has also provided M1,000 worth of electricity to support the water committee as it works towards establishing a sustainable management plan.
