Pakistani Man Sentenced for Stealing M20,000 from Employer in Maseru

A 27-year-old Pakistani man, Ebad Khan, who resides at Ha Hoohlo in Maseru,
appeared before the Maseru Magistrate’s Court on 4 March this year facing
charges of stealing approximately M20,000 from the business where he was
employed.
The court sentenced him to eight years’ imprisonment at a correctional facility,
with the alternative of paying a fine of M15,000. He has been given until 4 April
2026 to pay the fine, failing which he will serve the prison sentence.
Speaking during the Fiela operation, Inspector Tsepo Raphiri, explained that
police received a report from a businessman on 28 February stating that
M20,000 had gone missing. The money had been kept in a place known only to
the complainant and the accused.
He said police launched an investigation and discovered that the accused had
taken the money on 21 February this year. Further investigations revealed that
the accused went to a wholesaler’s shop where he spent M5,000, bought food
worth over M700, and even tipped the shopkeeper M25. The remainder of the
money, he said, was spent on the accused’s personal needs and with his friends.
Inspector Raphiri concluded by urging people to remain honest in their
workplaces in order to avoid arrest and prosecution.
