Health Minister Selibe Mochoborane has confirmed the authenticity of a leaked communication from his ministry to the Public Service Commission (PSC), in which the ministry requested that the processing of a previously submitted recruitment application be halted.
Speaking to Mohale FM, Minister Mochoborane said the decision was taken after the ministry realized it was facing financial constraints that made it impossible to employ additional staff at this time.
Meanwhile, Director of Human Resources, ’Mapaballo Mohololi confirmed that the ministry currently has more than 200 vacant technical posts, noting that filling and retaining such positions would require substantial financial resources.
However, Ms Mohololi, who was accompanied by the ministry’s Public Relations Officer ’Mateboho Mosebekoa during the interview, expressed displeasure at being questioned about the contents of the leaked savingram. The two officials stressed that the communication was never intended for public consumption.
Their discomfort was evident during the interview, with both officials offering guarded and, at times, unclear responses, despite Minister Mochoborane having personally facilitated the interview at the Ministry of Health headquarters on Thursday.
In the following audio clip, Ms Mohololi and Ms Mosebekoa can be heard responding evasively to questions regarding the leaked document.
