The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, Honourable Lejone Mpotjoane, says the ministry became aware of serious concerns regarding delays in the processing of study permits for Basotho students intending to study at various institutions in South Africa.
He explained that the delays were caused by system challenges at the South African High Commission in Lesotho.
Minister Mpotjoane said his ministry took all necessary steps to engage with the South African High Commission in Lesotho, as well as its operational units in South Africa, where a solution was eventually reached.
According to a directive issued by the South African Department of Home Affairs, educational institutions have been instructed to allow students who possess proof of application receipts to enrol. The receipt will serve as confirmation that the student has applied for a study permit while awaiting the issuance of the actual permit
