THE long-awaited turf installation exercise at Setsoto Stadium is set to begin today, as part of the facility’s upgrade to meet international standards. The turf, which arrived in the country in December 2025, was manufactured in the Netherlands. Installation will be carried out by Edel Grass, a FIFA-accredited manufacturer of synthetic sports turf, based in the same country.
A team of Edel Grass specialists arrived in the country on Friday.
Ministry of Tourism, Sports, Arts and Culture Public Relations Officer, ’Mamolise Falatsa, confirmed the team’s arrival, saying installation work was expected to commence tomorrow.
She said the installation was preceded by an inspection of the turf sub-base — a critical layer that provides stability, support and drainage — which was completed last week.
The development has renewed hope that Setsoto Stadium, the country’s only international-standard sports facility, will soon reopen. The stadium was banned by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in 2021 after failing to meet required standards.
