The Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC Day) was celebrated in Maseru, Lesotho, with a special event organised by the High Commission of India in South Africa, concurrently accredited to Lesotho. The programme was held at the Avani Lesotho Hotel and featured a keynote address, experience sharing by ITEC alumni, and vibrant cultural performances by local dancers from Lesotho.
Delivering the keynote address, the High Commissioner of India to South Africa and Lesotho, Prabhat Kumar, highlighted the philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, meaning “the world is one family”. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to partnership, solidarity, and shared progress beyond borders. He said the ITEC programme is one of India’s flagship capacity-building initiatives, under which India shares its expertise with over 160 partner countries.
Mr Kumar said since its inception on 15th September 1964, the ITEC programme has benefited many Basotho nationals, including civil servants, defence and police personnel, as well as private sector participants, through training and capacity-building courses at prestigious institutions in India.
For his part, Lesotho’s Minister of Labour and Employment, Tšeliso Mokhosi, appreciated the ITEC programme and underlined the strong and friendly ties between India and Lesotho.
Around 200 ITEC beneficiaries from Lesotho’s government and defence forces attended the celebration. They shared their enriching experiences and expressed gratitude to the Government of India for its continued support in human resource development.
