Trade Minister Opens Tranquil Textiles Factory, Hails Growth of Basotho-Owned Enterprises

The Minister of Trade, Industry and Business Development (MTIBD), Mr Mokhethi Shelile, officially opened the Tranquil Textiles (Pty) Ltd in Maputsoe, Leribe, on Monday, marking a major milestone in Lesotho’s industrialization drive and economic growth.

Speaking at the event, Mr Shelile said the growth of Tranquil Textiles aligns with the government’s vision of promoting Basotho-owned enterprises as key drivers of sustainable employment and inclusive economic development. He reiterated that locally led industrialization remains central to transforming the economy and reducing poverty.

The Minister further urged Basotho youth to actively pursue entrepreneurial opportunities, stressing that the public sector alone cannot absorb all job seekers and that entrepreneurship is critical to job creation.

Tranquil Textiles, founded by Mr Clement Molupe Molupe, was established in 2019 with only four employees. With strategic support and funding from the Competitiveness and Financial Inclusion (CAFI) programme, the company has grown significantly and now employs 60 Basotho, contributing meaningfully to job creation and skills development in the country.
