The former Minister of Police and former Deputy Minister of Water, Honourable Lepota Sekola—who also previously served as Member of Parliament for Makhalaneng Constituency No. 46, a member of the Lesotho Defence Force, and a businessman in passenger transport—was laid to rest today in a state funeral at the Lesotho Defence Force cemetery in Khutsong, within the Ratjomose military barracks in Maseru.
His brother, Mr. Keketso Sekola, said the late Sekola suddenly fell ill on the 10th of this month after collapsing. He was admitted to Queen Mamohato Memorial Hospital following a referral from Makoanyane Military Hospital.
According to Mr. Sekola, doctors revealed that he had previously suffered a stroke, which later recurred partly because he had stopped taking his hypertension medication without medical guidance. This, along with other contributing factors, worsened his condition. The doctor also disclosed that the deceased had been suffering from depression.
Among those who paid their respects were the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Honourable Ts’epang Ts’ita Mosena; the Principal Chief of Matsieng, Chief Seeiso Ts’oana Mantata, representing His Majesty; and the Right Honourable Prime Minister Samuel Ntsokoane Matekane.
The late Honourable Lepota Sekola passed away at the age of 61 and is survived by his wife, two children, one brother and two sisters.
