Two arrested after failed attempted robbery at Mapoteng Hospital

Two men are in police custody in Teyateyaneng following an attempted robbery at Maluti Adventist Hospital early Friday Morning.

According to Teyateyaneng Police, Senior Superintendent Halahala, a group of about five men allegedly attempted to break into the hospital’s cash storage room. Their plan was foiled by security guards.

SSP Halahala said the suspects were armed with guns and explosives, which they intended to use to blow open the cash room.

He says the men gained access by cutting through the fence, but as they were preparing to set up the explosives, they were spotted by security guards. A shootout ensued, and the suspects fled the scene.

Police in TY, together with nearby army personnel, responded immediately. Two of the suspects were eventually arrested, while others are still on the run.

Two security guards sustained injuries during the incident, but their wounds are reported to be minor. Police investigations are ongoing.
