Police and LEC Join Forces to Combat Electricity Theft and Vandalism

Written by on October 23, 2025

Lance Sergeant Maseli from Police Headquarters, currently deployed within the Lesotho Electricity Company (LEC), says he was assigned to the corporation following a joint directive from the Police Commissioner and the LEC Chief Executive Officer in response to increasing criminal activity.
He explained that within LEC, they are dealing with widespread vandalism of electricity infrastructure and electricity theft, including illegal connections carried out by some of the company’s own employees.
This comes after three electricity poles were cut down in Tloutle, Roma – Maseru, on the 17th of this month.
Chief Lenea Lepota of Seqoma village, which is near the affected area, said he hopes those responsible for these crimes that damage community property will be brought to justice.
He added that he plans to work closely with local police forums to help curb such incidents, noting that darkness caused by power outages often results in even more criminal activity in the villages.
