TEBELLO Ramakongoana continues to fly Lesotho’s flag high, after earning a bronze medal for coming third in a tightly contested podium finish during the elite Tata Steel World 25km race in Kolkata, India, on Sunday.
Ramakongoana finished the race behind multiple Olympic gold medallist Joshua Cheptegei from Uganda and World Marathon Champion, Alphonce Simbu from Tanzania.
Kenya’s Collins Kipkorir came fourth behind Ramakongoana, followed by Gulveer Singh of India, and Ethiopia’s Fikadu Liche in sixth position. Cheptegei is also the World Record holder in the 5,000m and 10,000m track events, which demonstrates the calibre of athletes the race at tracts.
Meanwhile, Ramakongoana’s coach, James Mc Kirdy, described Ramakongoana’s Sunday achievement as the culmination of a remarkable year.
McKirdy told the Lesotho Times that Ramakongoana’s success in India can be attributed to the amount of time they invested in developing the athlete’s fitness in other areas.
