PSLE Top performers announced

Tlotliso Tholoana from Little Darling English Medium School has emerged the Top performer in the Primary School Leaving Examinations, out-performing over 34 thousand candidates who sat for the examinations this year.

Following close at the second spot was a tie between Leribe English Medium Primary School candidate Nthabiseng Christina Khobethi and KC Junior School Sentle Pitso from Berea.

Kamohelo Chalatse, Mahlohonolo Lerole, Junior Makoa, Vuyi Mandla, Katleho Mokatana, Thobeha Moruthane and Lerato Credence Potsane were also celebrated for making it to the top ten best national performers in Maseru on Monday this week.

The results were officially announced by Minister of Education and Training Professor Ntoi Rapapa on Monday, with their release expected early on Tuesday morning.

In delivering the remarks, Professor Rapapa revealed that this year’s performance showed a general improvement from last year’s performance especially in subjects such as Sesotho and English languages which have demonstrated continuous positive results.

In terms of participation, this year saw a higher participation of 34 824 pupils who sat for the examinations in comparison to 34 059 pupils last year, a difference of 765 more pupils this year.

He however said of this year’s 34 824 registered pupils, only 34 165 managed to sit for the examinations while the 677 fell short as a result of illness, shortage of funds as well as decision to drop out of school for initiation school being amongst reasons provided. He further revealed that girls demonstrated higher participation as well as performance in the best performed subjects which are English and Sesotho as he urged for more robust approach towards Mathematics, Science and technology which have scored low this year.
