Nkoeng Primary School is in deep mourning following the tragic death of 12-year-old Grade 7 pupil, Lineo Tjomane, during this final examination period.
It is reported that the young girl was allegedly killed by her 23-year-old brother, who is also accused of burying her body.
The school has described the incident as heartbreaking, adding that the family lives in difficult circumstances. The mother, who works in South Africa, is said to be struggling to return home to prepare for the funeral due to financial constraints.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Principal, Mrs. ’Mamakoae Rantlhabana, said the school became concerned after noticing Lineo’s absence on Monday last week — the first day of final examinations. She explained that their search efforts eventually uncovered the shocking details leading to the discovery of the body.
One of the teachers, Mr. Ts’ebeletso Nyofane, said the incident has left both staff and students living in fear, especially after receiving threats allegedly from the suspect’s father, who blames them for his son’s arrest.
On the other hand, Members of Parliament have extended their condolences to the school community and commended teachers for their quick action when they noticed the child’s absence. They also pledged to assist in making arrangements for the learner’s burial.
