Man Charged with Murder Over Land Dispute in Qacha’s Nek.

A 37-year-old man from Sekitsing Qabane, Mohale’s Hoek, appeared before the Qacha’s Nek Magistrate’s Court on October 9th this year, facing a charge of murdering a 40-year-old man.

Detective Inspector Thabo Setenane of the Qacha’s Nek Criminal Investigations Department says the police received a phone call on October 3rd , reporting a suspected murder. Upon arrival at the scene, officers found the body of a man lying in a field in the village.

The body was later taken to the mortuary as investigations began. Initial investigations revealed that the field where the deceased was found is the subject of a land dispute. It is alleged that the accused, together with two other suspects who are currently on the run, attacked the deceased and others using stones, sticks, and a hoe.

Detective Setenane said the deceased attempted to escape, but the attackers chased and caught him before assaulting him to death. The accused, identified as Ntjelo, has been remanded in custody at the Correctional Facility and is expected to appear again in court on October 21st this year.

Meanwhile, Detective Setenane urged members of the public to refrain from resorting to violence in resolving inheritance and land disputes, emphasizing that court decisions should be respected and accepted.
