A 36-year-old man, Mcedisi Mokonya of Ha Liketlele, Tlhakoaneng, Dilli-Dilli in Quthing, appeared before the Quthing Magistrate’s Court on October 14th this year, charged with the murder of a 73-year-old woman.
According to Detective Police Constable (DPC) Monts’o Lenkoe of the Dilli-Dilli Police Station, police received a report on the night of September 18th indicating that the elderly woman had been found dead at Mokonya’s home.
DPC Lenkoe explained that investigations led to Mokonya’s arrest after evidence revealed that he had sent a child to call his younger brother, claiming that someone wanted to speak to him on the phone. When the brother and the child went outside, Mokonya allegedly entered the house, strangled his mother, and forced her to drink poison.
DPC Lenkoe added that when Mokonya’s younger brother later returned home, he found the 73-year-old woman dead, and the house reeked of poison.
