LDF Soldiers Jailed 20 Years for Lisebo Tang Murder as Chief Justice Demands Accountability

Two Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) soldiers have been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the murder of Lisebo Tang, who was shot multiple times when soldiers opened fire with AK-47 rifles on the vehicle she was travelling in. Her companion, Tšepo Jane, survived the hail of bullets but sustained serious injuries.
In delivering the judgment, Chief Justice Sakoane Sakoane questioned why only junior soldiers were prosecuted, calling for accountability from commanders who allegedly gave the orders and officials accused of delaying the investigation.
The ruling has reignited debate over military accountability and equal justice under the law.
