Minister Seetsa Visits Semphethenyane Residents After Road Protest

After angry residents of Semphethenyane blocked the road with burning tires in protest over its poor condition, the new Minister of Local Government and Chieftainship Affairs, Nkhethoa Seetsa, visited the community to calm tensions and assess the state of the road.
Addressing residents, Minister Seetsa thanked the community for taking action that brought their concerns to the attention of the authorities.

He said that as the newly appointed minister, his priority is to follow up on the matter and ensure that the Maseru City Council speeds up the provision of a temporary gravel road while plans are being finalized for a permanent solution.
The minister acknowledged the frustrations of residents and assured them that efforts would be made to address their long-standing concerns.

Residents, however, noted that they have been promised road improvements for more than ten years, yet the road remains in poor condition. They expressed hope that the minister’s visit would finally lead to meaningful action and lasting improvements.
Meanwhile, some Basotho shared their views on the Semphetenyane protests.
