Vodacom Lesotho has urged Basotho to monitor minors as they access the internet amid growing concerns of discipline among young users on social media.
On the sidelines of the 30th anniversary celebrations of VCL operating in the country, the VCL staff including Chief Executive Officer Mohale Ralebitso called for joint efforts monitoring young users as the telecommunications continues with enforcing tighter digital measures against access to content not meant for their viewership.
Mr Ralebitso said the company was committed to high standards of cybersecurity and privacy laws that enabled consumers to access the internet without fear of reprise but encouraged parents and society to take charge assisting young people to use it responsibly.
He said it was only right that users appreciated that the use of social media be met with the corresponding responsibility.
Similarly, Legal and Compliance Officer, Rethabile Hoohlo said Vodacom has launched an online child protection page onto its website following the realisation that minors and teenagers made up a high percentage of users of the internet.
Ms Hoohlo said the move was in line with educating the youth on proper ways to use the internet for their benefit and protection.
