FIVE BASOTHO ARRESTED IN SA OVER ILLEGAL MINING

Five Basotho have been arrested in South Africa in connection with alleged illegal mining activities in the Bekkersdal policing area.
According to the South African Police Service, the suspects were arrested on Wednesday during a joint operation involving SAPS and Sibanye Stillwater Protection Services at the Cooke 4 Ezulwini Mine.
Police say security officers alerted authorities after noticing suspected illegal mining operations at the mine. Upon arrival, officers allegedly found the five men, aged between 18 and 46 years, in possession of two AK-47 rifles and 41 rounds of live ammunition.
The suspects, who were identified as Lesotho nationals, were taken to the Bekkersdal Police Station. They are facing charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, as well as contravening immigration laws in South Africa.
SAPS says the suspects are expected to appear before court soon.
