Ministry of Employment to Increase Minimum Wage

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Ts’elisoMokhosi, has announced that his ministry, following recommendations from a newly established board, will implement adjustments to the minimum wage.

Speaking at a press briefing in Maseru yesterday, Mokhosi explained that in accordance with Section 2(1) of the Labour Act, a 30-day public notice period must be observed before a final decision on the minimum wage structure is made. This allows all relevant stakeholders to provide input, ensuring transparency in the process.

He further assured Basotho that both employers and employees will be protected, and that no party will lose their rights.

The Ministry intends to expedite the adjustment of the minimum wage while carefully considering the interests of employers, in line with the Labour Act of 2024.
