The AIDS Health Foundation, in anticipation of International Condom Day, has organized a series of awareness activities focusing on the significance of condom use.
International Condom Day is commemorated annually on February 13th, and this year, it will be marked with a vibrant carnival at Makoanyane Square. Dr. Tilo Namane from the District Health Management Team emphasized that the principal objective of this day is to promote the health of Basotho and to encourage the adoption of all necessary measures for ensuring their health and safety.
He articulated that prevention is invariably preferable to cure, highlighting the necessity for enhanced protection against all forms of infection.
The day is celebrated to acknowledge the role of condoms in the prevention of various illnesses.
On behalf of UNFPA, Senior Counsellor, ‘Malintle Namane remarked that sexually transmitted diseases continue to pose a significant challenge, with new HIV cases still emerging.
Last year alone recorded 4,500 instances, indicating a troubling lack of condom usage. Namane indicated that this underscores the importance of Condom Day as a vital reminder on our calendars to reinforce the significance of condom use in averting numerous infections.
She urged the public to persist in their use of condoms, reiterating that prevention is always superior to remedy.
