Mofosi calls for Protection of Local Food Production

The Minister of Agriculture and food security Thabo Mofosi says the economy of any country cannot grow if food production and self-sufficiency are not protected, and that importing food from outside the country is equivalent to draining the national economy outward.

He made these remarks at an event organized by Kao Mine, aimed at assisting residents of Porenki in Butha-Buthe who have been affected by mining operations, through the provision of chickens, vegetable seedlings, fruit trees, and agricultural equipment yesterday.

Mofosi said the mine has taken a very important step in supporting communities so that they can produce their own food and sell it.

Kao Mine continues to strengthen the livelihoods of local residents, and among other things, it has built houses for them, connected them power solar electricity, and constructed early childhood schools, among other initiatives.
