NUL Political Analyst Condemns U.S. Actions Against Venezuela

A political analyst from the National University of Lesotho (NUL), Mr. Mojela Honki, has described the alleged arrest and abduction of the President of Venezuela by the President of the United States of America as a serious violation that should be strongly condemned by countries and international organizations. However, he noted that it is unlikely that any concrete action will be taken against the United States.

Speaking in an interview with Mohalo FM, Honki said countries that are rich in natural resources often experience political instability and conflict, which eventually result in economic crises. He explained that such instability usually attracts the attention of developed and powerful nations, as is currently the case with Venezuela, a country rich in crude oil.

Honki pointed out that the United States had earlier demonstrated its interest in Venezuela by blocking ships from exporting oil from the country, which he said was a clear indication that former U.S. President Donald Trump had set his sights on Venezuela. He added that the deployment of U.S. troops in the region under the pretext of “maintaining order” further highlighted this interest. According to Honki, similar patterns were observed before the outbreak of the war between Russia and Ukraine, which he believes serves as evidence of what he described as America’s imperialistic behavior.

He further warned that global political tensions of this nature have far-reaching consequences, including for developing and smaller nations such as Lesotho. Honki explained that because countries are interconnected through trade, instability in one nation can lead to population displacement, economic decline, and reduced employment and production, all of which negatively affect people’s livelihoods.
