PM Matekane Attends Regional World Children’s Day Commemoration in Botswana

Written by on November 14, 2025

Lesotho’s Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Ntsokoane Samuel Matekane, is in Gaborone, Botswana, for the Regional World Children’s Day commemoration.

Lesotho is among eight Southern African countries invited to the event, alongside South Africa, Eswatini, Namibia, Zambia, Malawi, and Zimbabwe. The commemoration is being held under the theme “My Day, My Rights – From Promises to Action.”

The theme underscores the importance of giving children a platform to express their views, engage in dialogue, and influence policies that affect their rights—an effort aimed at strengthening child participation and regional cooperation.

Children from one of the local radio station’s Leadership Programme are also part of the Prime Minister’s delegation.

World Children’s Day, observed globally on November 20, is a UNICEF-led call to action for children and by children, aimed at raising awareness on children’s rights and promoting their well-being worldwide.
