Members of the Maseru City Council have revealed that the recent confiscation of council vehicles by the Revenue  Services Lesotho has severely disrupted service delivery.
This was said during a Council meeting held in Maseru on Friday this week.

In her remarks, the Head of the Health Department, Mrs. ’Maseits’iro Khooe, expressed concern over the situation, revealing that two community members had to be rushed to hospital after collapsing.
She explained that residents had to use their private vehicles to respond to the emergency due to the shortage of council vehicles.

Mrs. Khooe further indicated that the Lithoteng area has been particularly hard hit by the lack of transport.
She said the poor road network in that area has worsened the problem of collecting waste in several communities, forcing workers to use vehicles not designated for such operations.
She also raised concerns about the deteriorating state of cleanliness in the city, pointing out that Maseru’s environment continues to be polluted despite the Council’s efforts to maintain sanitation.

Meanwhile, the Councillor for Khubetsoana, Mr. Thabo Sefuthi, strongly emphasized the need for the Maseru City Council to become self-sustaining instead of relying on bailouts and government assistance.
He said the Council’s continued appeals to the government for financial help reflect a lack of institutional capacity and independence.
