Mohale FM The Head of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) at the Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS), Senior Inspector Moeketsi Mahetlane, has praised the use of the E-spotfine device, saying traffic department services have significantly improved since its introduction in 2019.
Senior Inspector Mahetlane said the initiative has helped the department achieve milestones that were previously unforeseen.
Developed through collaboration between the LMPS, local ICT company Engidata, and the Road Fund, the E-spotfine was designed to address the backlog of manual spot fine records that had accumulated in police departments.
The digital device allows Traffic Officers to record offences and issue fines instantly at the roadside, with the data immediately uploaded to the police database.
Senior Inspector Mahetlane told Mohale FM that the system has also created new opportunities for technological advancement and efficiency within law enforcement.
On his part, Engidata Managing Director, Mr. Neo Kolobe, said the initiative has positioned Lesotho as the leading country in the SADC region for the highest rate of ticket payments made within the required seven-day period after issuance.

Meanwhile, traffic officers from Namibia recently completed E-spotfine training in Lesotho last week, following Botswana, which underwent similar training in 2022
