The impact of high temperatures and below normal rainfall on agriculture, water, and other key sectors will be the focus of discussions at the upcoming National Climate Outlook Forum.
This was revealed by the Minister of Environment and Forestry, Letsema Adontsi, when reviewing the country’s rainfall and temperature patterns between October 2024 and March 2025.
Mr Adontsi said the 2024/2025 rainfall season began in the second week of October, with below normal rainfall recorded between October and December, while the January to March 2025 period experienced above normal rainfall, particularly in the southern parts of the country.
He added that the north-western regions continued to receive below normal rainfall, and that above normal temperatures were observed during the December to February (DJF) season.
Looking ahead, Mr Adontsi said temperatures for the 2025/2026 rainfall season are expected to remain above long-term averages, with normal to above normal rainfall projected for most parts of the country.
He warned, however, that the summer season may bring flash floods, thunderstorms, hailstorms, heat waves, and strong winds, which could pose risks to lives, property, and crops.
