A 32-year-old man from Manganeng in Mokhotlong, Tieho Malapane, appeared
before the Mokhotlong Magistrate’s Court on October 8, charged with murder.
According to Detective Police Constable Tatolo Seeisa, police received a report on
October 5 that a woman from Manganeng had died in hospital after being severely
beaten by her husband.
Constable Seeisa said investigations revealed that on October 4, the accused and
his wife were at a local bar in Manganeng when the woman allegedly left with
another man she was having an affair with. The accused, who remained at the bar,
was later informed by other patrons that his wife had gone to a nearby area with
the man.
Malapane reportedly followed them and found the pair engaging in sexual activity.
When the man realized that the woman’s husband had caught them, he fled the
scene, leaving the woman behind. The accused allegedly assaulted and stoned his
wife, despite attempts by residents to intervene.
The victim was taken to hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
Police arrested the accused the same day. He remains in custody and is expected
to appear in court again on October 22.
Meanwhile, Detective Senior Inspector Thabiso Daemane has appealed to Basotho
to respect their families and to refrain from engaging in extra-marital affairs.
