Prime Minister Samuel Ntsokoane Matekane officially inaugurated the temporary bridge at Koro-koro in Maseru on Wednesday this week, after inspecting it to ensure that it is safe and ready for public use.

In his address, Honourable Matekane expressed satisfaction with the completion of the bridge, recalling his visit to the site in 2022 when the previous bridge had collapsed, causing vehicles to overturn. He also commended the Member of Parliament for Koro-koro, Honourable Abianyane Mahatanyane, for his dedication and persistence in ensuring that the community regained a reliable means of passage.

The Prime Minister stated that the temporary bridge has a maximum load capacity of 30 tonnes, warning that it should not be used by vehicles exceeding that limit.

Meanwhile, Honourable Abianyane Mahatanyane expressed his delight at the bridge’s completion, noting that residents had faced serious difficulties following the collapse of the original structure. He said that some children were unable to attend Koro-koro Primary School, and access to health services had become a major challenge.

He further emphasized that the bridge benefits not only the Koro-koro community but the entire country, as the Koro-koro road serves as a key route connecting various areas. However, he pointed out that poor road conditions remain one of the major challenges in his constituency and called for urgent attention to road maintenance and repairs.
