The Disaster Management Authority (DMA) in Thaba-Tseka has exceeded its local grain purchase target, having bought a total of 1,050 bags of grains from local farmers.

DMA District Manager, Nthomeng Matete, said while maize and wheat were purchased in low quantities, sorghum and beans dominated the supply.

Ms Matete said the district managed to procure only 23 bags of maize and 12 bags of wheat, while sorghum recorded the highest purchase at 578 bags of 50 kilograms, followed by beans with 437 bags.

She added that the district surpassed its allocated quota even before the local purchasing period ended on September 26.

Initially, Thaba-Tseka was expected to buy 225 bags of beans, 44 bags of sorghum, and 306 bags of maize.

Reports further indicate that Thaba-Tseka remains one of the country’s top producers of beans and sorghum.
