All 224 members of Zambia’s new National Assembly have been sworn in ahead of the first sitting of the country’s 14th Parliament.
The final group took the oath before Speaker Nelly Mutti at the National Assembly Buildings in Lusaka. Senior lawmakers urged both returning and first-time MPs to put national development, unity and the interests of their constituencies ahead of partisan or personal considerations.
Former government chief whip Stafford Mulusa said the election period was over and Parliament should now focus on improving citizens’ lives. Lawmakers were also urged to maintain the dignity and rules of the House during debate.
