More than 400 artisanal miners from across Zambia have gathered in Kabwe for a 20-day programme aimed at improving safety, professionalism and sustainability in small-scale mining.
The Ministry of Mines says participants will receive practical skills and tools to help them operate in safer and healthier conditions.
Central Province Permanent Secretary Milner Mwanakampwe urged miners to formalise their businesses and use banking channels for their earnings, while officials said government also wants to strengthen market access for minerals produced by small-scale operators.
The training has drawn participants from Central, Copperbelt, Lusaka, Luapula, Muchinga, North-Western, Western and Southern provinces.
