The Republic of Zambia is set to host the President of the State of Israel, His Excellency Isaac Herzog, from Monday to Tuesday this week on an official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
According to a statement issued by Zambia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr. Mulambo Haimbe, President Herzog’s visit seeks to fast-track the cooperation agreements established between the two nations, following President Hakainde Hichilema’s visit to Israel in 2023.
Minister Haimbe explained that the two leaders will revisit key areas of collaboration outlined in the General Framework Agreement of Cooperation signed in 2023, which focuses on enhancing partnerships in agriculture, health, education, and technology, as well as promoting trade and investment opportunities.
The growing friendship between President Hichilema and President Herzog comes at a time when many African countries have expressed their solidarity with Palestine amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine.
In August this year, Israel reopened its embassy in Zambia after several years of closure, signaling renewed diplomatic engagement.
President Herzog’s visit is scheduled to conclude on Tuesday, November 11th.
