WFP Welcomes New Country Director for Lesotho

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) welcomed Ms. Anna Mukiibi-Bunnya as its new representative and country director for Lesotho.

She presented her letters of introduction yesterday to Lesotho’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations Honourable Lejone Mpotjoane, in an event held in Maseru.

Mrs Mukiibi-Bunnya said Lesotho faces the triple burden of malnutrition – stunting, micronutrient deficiencies, and obesity – particularly among young children, which threatens the country’s social and economic development.

She mentioned that WFP is committed to addressing malnutrition by facilitating access to nutritious foods and promoting both sustainable and climate-smart agriculture, mentioning her priorities such as to work closely with the leadership and people of Lesotho, including young women and men, development partners and fellow UN agencies and private sector, to advocate for and implement solutions that address the barriers standing in the way of achieving zero hunger.

Prior to this appointment, Anna served as Deputy Country Director and Head of Programme for WFP in Ghana, providing strategic leadership, programme integration and supporting resource mobilisation. She has also worked for WFP’s operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mali, Sudan, and WFP’s Regional Office for Southern Africa in Johannesburg.
