US President Donald Trump has urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to stop attacks on Russian diesel infrastructure, arguing that the strikes are contributing to a global fuel shortage.
Ukraine has carried out a series of long-range drone attacks on Russian oil refineries in recent months, reducing fuel production. Kyiv says the facilities are legitimate military targets because Russia continues to attack Ukraine’s own energy infrastructure.
The dispute comes as diesel prices have risen sharply, with the US national average reaching more than $6 a gallon for the first time, according to price tracker GasBuddy.
Trump said the pressure on diesel supplies was hurting countries beyond the immediate conflict.
